Katsushika Hokusai was a pioneering ukiyo-e artist of Japan’s Edo period, renowned for The Great Wave off Kanagawa from his Thirty-Six Views of Mount Fuji. His bold compositions and innovative use of perspective influenced generations of artists in both Japan and the West.
