Andy Warhol

American, 1928–1987

Andy Warhol is known for his appropriation of photography. As a commercial illustrator, he first became interested in manipulation of popular images. Warhol could not do much to stop the collective, he would sign “this is not by me!” on the reproductions he got his hands on.
